Terrestrial Energy USA Receives U.S. Department of Energy Award for Advanced Nuclear Instrumentation Development Work at Oak Ridge National Laboratory

NEW YORK – May 2, 2018 – Terrestrial Energy USA has received an award from the U.S. Department of Energy for Advanced Nuclear instrumentation development work at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, a U.S. Government-owned nuclear laboratory located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

U.S. Energy Secretary, Rick Perry, announced the recipients of industry awards to support Advanced Nuclear technology development on April 27, 2018. Terrestrial Energy USA was among those selected, and the recipient of an award under the Gateway for Accelerated Innovation in Nuclear, or “GAIN” initiative. GAIN is focused on accelerating the development of Advanced Nuclear technologies.

This is the third award that Terrestrial Energy USA has received from the U.S. Department of Energy under the GAIN initiative. It is directed at the development of components for use within the instrumentation and control systems of the IMSR. Terrestrial Energy USA will perform this work in conjunction with Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

“Terrestrial Energy USA continues to value the support it receives from the U.S. Department of Energy via the GAIN initiative,” said Simon Irish, CEO of Terrestrial Energy USA. “The initiative provides companies access to the Department of Energy’s extensive network and deep bench of technical capabilities, many of which are important to the timely development of transformative reactor technologies such as the IMSR.”

About Terrestrial Energy USA
Terrestrial Energy USA, an affiliate of Terrestrial Energy Inc., is developing the Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR) for U.S. market deployment. The IMSR is an Advanced Reactor and represents true innovation in cost and functionality. It will provide clean and cost-competitive heat for use in many industrial applications, including the provision of electric power, and of heat for industrial processes, such as chemical synthesis and desalination. The IMSR extends the applicability of nuclear energy far beyond its current footprint in on-grid electric power markets. It promises to increase industrial competitiveness and energy security while concurrently driving deep and rapid decarbonization by displacing fossil fuel combustion across a broad industrial front. Using an innovative design based on proven Molten Salt Reactor technology, the IMSR can be brought to market in the 2020s.
