Terrestrial Energy is a developer of Generation IV advanced nuclear power plants that use its proprietary Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR®) technology. IMSR® technology represents true innovation in cost reduction, versatility and functionality of nuclear power plants. IMSR® power plants will provide zero-carbon, reliable, dispatchable, cost-competitive electric power and high-grade industrial heat for use in many industrial applications, such as chemical synthesis and desalination, and in so doing extend the application of nuclear energy far beyond electric power markets. We have the potential to make important contributions to industrial competitiveness, energy security, and economic growth. Our deployment will support rapid global decarbonization of the primary energy system by displacing fossil fuel combustion across a broad spectrum. Using an innovative design, and proven and demonstrated molten salt reactor technology, we are engaged with regulators and industrial partners to complete IMSR® engineering and to commission first IMSR® power plants in the late 2020s. Thermal Hydraulics Analyst

Reports To

Thermal Hydraulics Manager

Job Duties

The Thermal Hydraulics Analyst, under the direction Thermal Hydraulics Manager, is primarily responsible for thermal hydraulic design, simulation, analysis and R&D support. Other responsibilities include:

  • Develop thermal hydraulic models in the system level thermal hydraulic codes
  • Perform steady state and transient simulations; sensitivity analysis and optimization studies to improve designs
  • Prepare simulation results reports, assessment reports and design documents
  • Develop codes in programming language to support simulations
  • Present the simulation results to the higher management to support decision making
  • Review CFD models and documents
  • Perform code-to-code validation with CFD models
  • Coordinate with other disciplines such as physics, chemistry and/or mechanical
  • Contribute in the design development of the IMSR® technology
  • Support development of the thermal hydraulic experimental test setups, review and interpret test results to improve design and simulation models
  • Review assessment documents and provide comments

  • Minimum undergraduate degree in mechanical, or nuclear engineering or science degree
  • Minimum 4 to 5 years of work experience preferable in power industry, and focus in thermal hydraulic design and analysis
  • Working knowledge of system level thermal hydraulic codes such as Flownex, Aspen, Ebsilon
  • Working knowledge of any programming language such as C#, C++ or Python
  • Knowledgeable in Computational Fluid Dynamics fundamentals
  • Extensive knowledge of thermodynamics and heat transfer fundamentals
  • Knowledgeable in the working principles of pumps and heat exchangers
  • Skills and ability to learn new technology
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills
  • Flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities and deadlines
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication (both written and verbal) skills
  • Skilled at developing and maintaining strong relationships across all levels of the organization and with external customers and vendors


  • Education in the nuclear field
  • Registered as P.Eng. in Professional Engineers Ontario
  • Design / refurbishment experience of nuclear reactors
  • Knowledge of molten salt nuclear reactor working principles
