Job Opening: Technical Project Engineer

Terrestrial Energy is a developer of Generation IV advanced nuclear power plants that use its proprietary Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR®) technology. IMSR® technology represents true innovation in cost reduction, versatility and functionality of nuclear power plants. IMSR® power plants will provide zero-carbon, reliable, dispatchable, cost-competitive electric power and high-grade industrial heat for use in many industrial applications, such as chemical synthesis and desalination, and in so doing extend the application of nuclear energy far beyond electric power markets. We have the potential to make important contributions to industrial competitiveness, energy security, and economic growth. Our deployment will support rapid global decarbonization of the primary energy system by displacing fossil fuel combustion across a broad spectrum. Using an innovative design, and proven and demonstrated molten salt reactor technology, we are engaged with regulators and industrial partners to complete IMSR® engineering and to commission first IMSR® power plants in the late 2020s. Job Duties

The Technical Project Engineer (TPE), under the direction of the Engineering Project Manager, is primarily responsible for leading a set of inter-related Work Packages that are grouped as a project. Other responsibilities include:

  • Provide technical and project management support to the Work Packages within one or more Projects. Projects can be in multiple areas, which include High Temperature Management/Cooling, Steam Systems, Heat Transport, Structures, etc. Multiple positions are available for varying experience levels and technical skill sets.
  • Maintain stakeholder relationships and ensure alignment of project expectations
  • Liaise and coordinate with stakeholders through project/technical integration meetings to communicate project status, issues and priorities
  • Motivate project team to meet quality, scope, and cost constraints/targets
  • Coordinate integration between engineering and R&D activities associated with the Work Packages
  • Participate in R&D test meetings with suppliers (as necessary)
  • Request resources from Functional Managers
  • Communicate with other TPEs for project alignment
  • Report and record project status, issues, risks to Engineering Project Manager (EPM)
  • Conduct Lessons Learned meetings
  • Prepare, or support preparation of, Design Change Packages
  • Facilitate technical problem solving
  • Provide effective leadership to the project team through communicating expectation and instilling accountability
  • Update and monitor project schedules and cost
  • Support the EPM in planning, monitoring, and controlling the project
  • Support the EPM in development and implementation of recovery plans
  • Interface with internal and external project stakeholders, customers, and suppliers
  • Oversee Engineering Procurement & Construction (EPC) vendors as required.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Engineering or a related field
  • Fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or eligible to be licensed.
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in Project Management, and focus in engineering (multiple positions available for varying levels of experience)
  • Demonstrated success in project delivery and the execution of project management methods in engineering projects
  • Experience with the nuclear or energy industry
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills
  • Flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities and deadlines
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication (both written and verbal) skills
  • Skilled at developing and maintaining strong relationships across all levels of the organization and with external customers and vendors
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (such as MS Project and Excel) for management of project plan, costs, schedule, and tracking issues/risks
  • Ability to independently manage multiple activities and organize work to meet deadlines
  • Highly effective negotiation, diplomatic, and conflict resolution skills

Assets

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation
  • Management of complex large-scale engineering projects
  • Familiarity with the integration process between R&D activities and Engineering activities
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements such as REGDOC-2.5.2, REGDOC-1.1.2, and REGDOC-3.5.4
