Job Opening: Engineering Project Manager

Terrestrial Energy is a developer of Generation IV advanced nuclear power plants that use its proprietary Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR®) technology. IMSR® technology represents true innovation in cost reduction, versatility and functionality of nuclear power plants. IMSR® power plants will provide zero-carbon, reliable, dispatchable, cost-competitive electric power and high-grade industrial heat for use in many industrial applications, such as chemical synthesis and desalination, and in so doing extend the application of nuclear energy far beyond electric power markets. We have the potential to make important contributions to industrial competitiveness, energy security, and economic growth. Our deployment will support rapid global decarbonization of the primary energy system by displacing fossil fuel combustion across a broad spectrum. Using an innovative design, and proven and demonstrated molten salt reactor technology, we are engaged with regulators and industrial partners to complete IMSR® engineering and to commission first IMSR® power plants in the late 2020s. Job Duties

The Engineering Project Manager, under the direction of the Project Director, is primarily responsible for planning, monitoring, and controlling IMSR® engineering projects with internal and external project stakeholders, customers, and suppliers. Other responsibilities include:

  • Oversee development and maintain engineering project schedules (includes integration of R&D activities)
  • Analyze the requirements with the customer, determines the strategy for execution of project plan
  • Maintain client relationships and ensure alignment of project expectations
  • Liaise and coordinate with stakeholders through integration meetings to communicate project status and issues
  • Participate in the development of engineering processes
  • Prepare progress reports and report project status to Engineering Director and Project Director
  • Support the Engineering Director and Project Director in development of engineering design plans and/or project plans identifying sufficient level of detail for Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
  • Support the Engineering Director in managing resource loads, new resource identification, and allocation within the Engineering department
  • Collect updates from the Engineering Project Coordinators and/or Engineering Discipline Managers/Leads on progress of engineering activities
  • Motivates team to meet quality, scope, and cost constraints/targets
  • Monitor critical path activities and work with the Engineering Director on development of recovery plans;
  • Support change control and configuration management processes
  • Develop and implement appropriate project controls (for schedule and cost)
  • Provide effective leadership to the project team through communicating expectation and instilling accountability
  • Support risk management and escalate issues and potential risks to the engineering schedule to the Engineering Director and Project Director.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in Project Management with a focus in engineering
  • Demonstrated success in project delivery and the execution of project management methods in Engineering projects
  • Experience in EPC vendor oversight
  • Experience within the nuclear or energy industry
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including meeting facilitation and presentations
  • Ability to clearly articulate goals and objectives, and present and communicate ideas in both written and oral forms
  • Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives and work across multi-disciplinary teams and develop rapport with all levels of the organization
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (such as MS Project and Excel) for management of project plan, costs and schedule
  • Experience in project estimation and resource loading for large-scale, complex projects
  • Ability to independently manage multiple activities and organize work to meet deadlines
  • Highly effective negotiation, diplomatic, and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong problem identification and demonstration of innovative problem resolutions
  • Flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities and deadlines

Assets

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Systems or Industrial Engineering
  • Working knowledge of Primavera 6
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation
  • Management of complex large-scale engineering projects
  • Familiarity with the integration process between R&D activities and Engineering activities
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements such as REGDOC-2.5.2, REGDOC-1.1.2, and REGDOC-3.5.4
  • Familiarity with Code Validation activities
